Fun Facts:
· Volusia County was created in 1854.
· Named for the port of Volusia along the St. Johns River on the county's western side.
· Volusia County is the sole county of the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach, Florida, Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is the 100th-largest metro area by population in the United States as of the 2004 Census estimate.
· In 1946, Major League Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier at City Island Ballpark in Daytona Beach as a member of the Montreal Royals, the top farm team of the Brooklyn Dodgers. The ballpark was the site of the first racially integrated spring training game in modern baseball history. Robinson was promoted to the Dodgers in 1947.
· Volusia’s land area is 1,106 square miles.

· Volusia County saw a 12% decrease in the violent crime rate between 2000 and 2008.
· Averages wages in Volusia County (adjusted for inflation) increased 7% between 2000 and 2006.
· 38% of adults in Volusia County participate in a moderate exercise program on a regular basis.
