Demographics/Diversity

Who are you neighbors? Do they look like you? What will they be like in 10, 15, 25 years? Through this system, we plan to find out who we are today and who we will be in the future.

How is our region perceived around the country? Around the world? Does that perception match reality? What do Central Florida's demographics say about our community? Remember, diversity is more than skin color. We're talking about diversity of age, geography and thought as well.

Through a series of public meetings and workshops, we will see how recent trends of urbanization and economic growth have changed the identity of this area.

Is Central Florida satisfied with the diversity of its population? Why have some areas had more success with diversification that others? Do the long-term projections predict a radical change in our community?

A quote from Michael Gallis about the changing patterns of demographics in our community:

"Population density is sweeping across transportation corridors. Largest single change in diversity is the Hispanic population significantly in Osceola County."

Here’s what some concerned citizens had to say:

"People factors are very important because they determine response to ideas for change or direction."

"Our international community is one of our greatest assets."

"Completion of 417 will drive more growth west of Orlando."

"Maintaining a balance between individuality and inclusiveness is difficult."
