Economic Leadership - Enhancing Our Assets

Central Florida has long been respected as a global leader in tourism and space technology. However, declining market shares, due to a rise in international competition, are threatening our region’s status and financial future. To broaden our economic horizons, we must examine our untapped potential and explore opportunities in key areas such as trade, transportation, research, and technology. In doing so, we will create a strong platform for economic diversification, while securing our position in the global marketplace.

Imagine a community alive with entrepreneurial programs, businesses and employees enriched by development opportunities, and unprecedented cooperation linking representatives from tourism, economic development, and workforce initiatives. It’s possible—thanks to Central Florida leaders. By creating a collective vision for economic expansion, we’re building a new future for Central Florida, while ensuring market growth and global competitiveness.

In partnership with the Florida High-Tech Corridor Council, economic development organizations, and public/private businesses – large and small – myregion is collaborating with community leaders to create programs that foster economic diversity. Together we’re building a seven-county plan to address growth management issues while securing the ability to transport goods, services, and ideas throughout Central Florida.

We are advocating and working together to:
• Fund the growth of university systems to increase the number of science and engineering graduates
• Increase university research funding to determine areas of high economic potential
• Establish a center for manufacturing excellence to improve manufacturing efficiency and verify available government contracts
• Support the University of Central Florida in establishing a medical school that supports bio-economy research
• Establish Enterprise Development Centers of Excellence

By working together, we’re securing Central Florida’s economic future and expanding opportunities for generations to come.
