Infrastructure

Every bit of growth you see requires plenty of infrastructure-building you don't see. Development of Central Florida's regional infrastructure -- our sewer, water, power and communications networks -- will have a direct and lasting impact on our future.

What physical constraints does our infrastructure face? What about economic and social obstacles? What needs to be done behind the scenes and below the ground to turn Central Florida into a super-region? How can the region work together to make it happen? All of these questions will be answered in this system.

Here’s a quote from Michael Gallis about the unique infrastructure challenges facing Central Florida:

"In looking at Infrastructure, it is very difficult to pull together many of the systems. There seems to be an interconnected network of a strong central center with outlying and supportive infrastructure segments. Workshop attendees must look at communications, power and water systems. There are transportation and urban growth issues – do we coordinate growth with infrastructure?"

Here’s what some concerned citizens had to say:

"The threat to our green areas is not as bad as it seems."

"If we had major damage, would we put our infrastructure back the way it was or will we be prepared for more innovative means?"

"I’m alarmed that water data is not readily identified or available."

"A hurricane disaster prompted development of a statewide building code. Will it take a another disaster to address water issues on a statewide level?"

Through the involvement of residents like you, we have identified some of these resources and issues. To submit your opinion on what we should be concentrating on, visit our message board.
